摘要

PURPOSE:To decrease the content of an expensive platinum group metal and to prevent a drop in charge efficiency and discharge efficiency by arranging alumina powder supported with very small amount of platinum group metal on the surface of a negative electrode together with a small amount of binder. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode is formed by arranging active material layers mainly comprising cadmium oxide on both sides of a core metal 5. A layer 3 comprising a catalyst and a binder is formed on the surface of the negative electrode by coating the surface with a mixture of alumina powder 2 supported with platinum and polyvinyl alcohol 6. Thereby, the content of the catalyst is remarkably reduced without sacrifice of discharge rate. Since direct contact with cadmium is decreased, a drop in hydrogen overvoltage caused by the catalyst is also prevented.
