PURPOSE:To permit stable coating by starting the coating at the spacing between the lip of a coating machine and web narrower than the intrinsic set spacing and returning the same to the intrinsic set spacing right after a bead is formed. CONSTITUTION:The coating is started at the spacing between the lip 6 of the coating machine and the web 9 narrower than the intrinsic set spacing and the spacing is returned to the intrinsic set spacing right after the formation of the bead. The web 9 travels by being wound around a back up roll 1 and contacts a coating liquid 8 passed on a sliding surface 5 from a slit 4 of the slide bead coating machine 2 in the lip part 6 of the coating machine. The bead 7 which is a ribbon-shaped liquid pool is formed in the lip part 6 and the coating liquid 8 is coated on the web 9 through said bead 7. The change rate of the bed spacing increases and there is the danger of inducing a coating trouble or nabbing of foreign matter on a base in the bead part and the consequent generation of a line trouble when the coating is continued while the narrow bead spacing is maintained. The spacing is, therefore, required to be returned to the intrinsic set spacing right after the bead formation. The continuous coating with which the coating lines at the top of the coating hardly arises is thereby permitted. |
