PURPOSE:To resolve troublesome setting of the kind of machine by a programmer to perform the support processing of high reliability by reading the machine type code peculiar to a data processor by a supporting device when a transmission line between the supporting device and the data processor is formed. CONSTITUTION:Peculiar machine type codes 6A and 6B indicating machine types of a CRT display device 2 and a printer 3 as data processors are stored in memories 5A and 5B incorporated in the device 2 and the printer 3. When a transmission line 7 is formed between the CRT display device 2 and a supporting device 1 for the purpose of performing the support processing of the device 2, the supporting device 1 reads the machine type code 6A of the CRT display device 2 through the transmission line 7 and registers it in an internal memory. The device 1 discriminates the machine type code 6A to execute a prescribed support processing such as write of a pattern program corresponding to the machine type. In case of the support processing for the printer 3, the machine type code 6B is read to perform the similar operation.
