PURPOSE:To record an image with high quality by providing FOP layers which are arrayed outside pixel electrodes, a 2nd polarizing plate which is layered outside the FOP layers, and a couple of light shield material which are fixed to a transparent substrate so as to sandwich the pixel electrodes and FOP layers. CONSTITUTION:The pixel electrodes 44 made of transparent materials are embedded on the light output side of liquid crystal 41 opposite an orienting film 42A and picture elements 60, and the FOPs (Fiber Optical plate) which are transparent substrates are arrayed and layered outside the pixel electrodes 44. The pitch of the FOP layers 50 is much smaller than the pixel size of the pixel electrodes 44 and light inputted to the FOP layers 50 is outputted as it is. Then the polarizing plate 45 is layered outside the FOP layers 50 to sandwich a common electrode 43, a photomask 26, the liquid crystal 41, the pixel electrodes 44, the FOP layers 50, and the polarizing plate 45 which form picture elements 60 by fixing the couple of light shield material 51 and 52 to the transparent substrate 47. Consequently, image light is recorded faithfully without using any optical system and the device is reducible in size. |
