PURPOSE:To realize bidirectional printing and contrive a higher printing speed, by providing two contact surfaces between a printing head and an ink ribbon, for different ribbon moving directions in a ribbon feeding passage, and switching said contact surfaces. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon-feeding mechanism 3 having a ribbon feeding passage determined by ribbon rollers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 is switched by a ribbon-switching mechanism 12 constituted of a motor 13 and a cam 14, and the ribbon feeding passage is lowered so that a printing head 5 makes contact with a contact part between the ribbon rollers 6, 7. In this case, an ink ribbon 4 making contact with the bead 5 is moved leftward, while a carrier as a whole is moved rightward, so that printing can be performed while preventing the ribbon 4 and a recording paper 1 from rubbing against each other, by setting the feeding velocity of the ribbon and the velocity of the carrier to be equal to each other. At the time of printing in the reverse direction, namely, leftward, the ribbon feeding passages are switched by the mechanism 12 so that the head 5 makes contact with a contact part between the ribbon rollers 8, 9. |
