PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of energy comsumption and to make a return to current time by interrupting motor driving when a potential obtained from a charging device drops and making the return to the present time display when the potential recovers to a potential high enough to drive a motor. CONSTITUTION:When a detecting circuit 106 detects the potential Vc obtained from the charging device being high enough to drive the motor, an electronic timepiece is driven normally according to the flow of a motor oscillation circuit 101 and a motor driving circuit 104. When the Vc drops below the potential set in a detecting circuit 107, the output of the circuit 107 drops to L and a latch (inverter 109 and NOR gates 110 and 111) falls in level to L to hold an AND gate 113 at L, so that the present time display stops. At the same time, a storage circuit 112 counts a reference signal from the circuit 12 and holds the difference from the current time. When the Vc rises by recharging and the output of a circuit 10 goes up to H, the return to the present time is made. The circuit 105, on the other hand, stops an hand advance until the count contents of the circuit 105 becomes zero.
