PURPOSE:To prevent generation of defects of a rolled stock by forming both end parts of an edged stock into a circular arcuate shape section before or after an edging stage. CONSTITUTION:An edger 10 provided with edger rolls 13, 13 is installed between an edging press 2 and a rough rolling roll 5 or on the inlet side of the press 2. The edger rolls 13 are put in an upper and lower positions symmetrically to a central face 15 and are formed by rotating curved faces recessed in a nearly circular arcuate shape so that a diameter of the faces increases as the rolls 13 are away from the central face 15. A slab 16 edged by the edge press 2 firstly generates a dog bone 17 at the press 2. Then, both end parts of the slab 16 are roundly cornered and their section is formed into a circular arcuate shape. Then, the slab 16 is horizontally rolled to form a strip. Generation of defects of a rolled stock after finishing rolling is prevented because the dog bone 17 is corrected by the edger 10. |
