PURPOSE:To provide the titled medium which has excellent durability and exhibits a good lubricating effect for a long period and to improve the reliability of a magnetic disk by fixing one end of compds. containing a fluorine group into the surface layer of the magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of the compds. expressed by formula I is incorporated into the surface layer of the magnetic recording medium. In formula I, Rf denotes a fluorine containing alkyl group or fluorine contained polyether group, R' denotes -CH2- or -CO-, R'' denotes an oxyalkylene group of 2-3C, (m) denotes an integer, >=0, (n) denotes an integer of (0-5). More specifically, a phenyl group 5 without contg. fluorine has good affinity to the binder resin in a magnetic layer 2 and is, therefore, securely fixed into the magnetic layer. Since the fluorine contained compd. 4 contg. cargon atoms at a high ratio and having particularly excellent lubricating effect has low surface energy, said compd. is oriented in the surface of the magnetic layer and the lubricating effect thereof is exhibited sufficiently and continuously for a long period.
