PURPOSE:To shorten the recognizing time of type characters by designating an optimum font dictionary via an operator with reference to the recognizing categories. CONSTITUTION:When the recognizing categories equivalent to a single page are supplied, an overall control means 9 outputs a control signal instructing a display position and the recognizing result to a recognizing result display means 8. Then an operator looks at the recognizing result displayed on the means 8 and supplies the misreading case number via an operator keyboard 10. Then the means 9 stores a 2nd font recognition dictionary stored in a low- speed access memory means 7 into a high-speed access memory means 6 by the input given from the operator. The means 9 has comparison between the misreading case numbers to store the minimum font recognition dictionary into the means 6 from the means 7 and decides the font of the recognition dictionary.
