摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To enhance the feeling of deceleration during deceleration of an engine, and to restrain torque shocks upon returning of fuel by stopping a pumping loss means in an operating range in which fuel supply is ceased during deceleration of the engine, and by starting the same before the returning of fuel. CONSTITUTION:When a controller 17 receiving an intake-air amount signal from an air-flow meter 5, a rotational speed signal from a crank angle sensor 18 and an opening degree signal from a throttle valve 6, determines that an engine is in a decelerating condition, a timing changeover means 15 (pumping loss lowering means) for an intake valve 11 is changed over into a normal condition so as to increase deceleration torque by use of a pumping loss to enhance the feeling of deceleration. Upon returning of fuel, when a controller 17 determines that the engine is in a fuel cut-off condition at the present time, the valve timing is at first changed over into an early closed condition so as to lower the deceleration torque by one stage, and then a fuel returning signal is delivered to a fuel injection valve 14 after a set time elapses due to operation of a timer so that the deceleration torque due to the returning of fuel is further lowered so as to further lower the deceleration torque step by step, thereby to relax the torque shocks.</p>
