PURPOSE:To completely prevent an optical fiber from becoming thin and curving by running the end part of a multiple optical fiber formed by bundling plastic optical fibers through a pipe, heating the respective fibers nearby the tip of the pipe and expanding the sectional area, and disconnecting and polishing the part. CONSTITUTION:The terminal of the multiple optical fiber 1 is run closely through the pipe 3 and the respective fibers 2 are heated by a heater 5 nearly the tip pipe 3 to 19 deg.C higher than the softening point of the optical fibers 2, thereby expanding the section of each optical fiber 2. Then, the respective optical fibers 2 at the tip of the pipe 3 are cut at right angles to the optical axes and polished. The pipe internal section of the end surface of the terminal part of the multiple optical fiber 2 is full of the optical fibers 2, the cores 7 and clads 8 of the optical fibers are expanded at nearly the same rate, and others are in a healthy state without thinning nor curving. |
