PURPOSE:To attain the ease of synthesis of characters and a drawing on one and the same recording paper, of the selection of character lines on an original and of the setting of position by setting the optical region of the original onto a read face and starting the reading/recording from the region prior to the original read scanning. CONSTITUTION:At first the read optical system is made in standby at a position nearly deviated from the width of original paper as the preparation of reading/ recording. In this state, the original read region is observed visually from the upper side at the outside of the device and the original is forwarded and stopped in the advancing direction till the heat of the region desired to read original information reaches the reading face. A carrier roller is driven manually by a turning knob connected directly to the original carrier roller in the advancing or the carrier roller is driven by the driving source by means of a switch key to carry the original. Thus, the part desired to read the original is set selectively and quickly in this way and the reading is started efficiently in a short time. At which position on the recording paper in the carrier direction lengthwise the original reading information is to be recorded is decided optionally.
