PURPOSE:To permit formation of a coated film having an excellent surface characteristic on one face by coating said film onto said surface while subjecting the surface to an electric discharge treatment in the case of coating the coated film on one face, drying the coating and coiling a web then providing the coated film on the side opposite from the coated surface. CONSTITUTION:After the coated film is coated on one face of the web and the web is coiled after drying, a coating compd. 7 for a back coating layer prepd. by mixing and dispersing a resin binder and solvent with and into nonmagnetic powder by a ball mill is coated on the surface opposite from the magnetic layer 1 side on a web roll 4 while the surface is subjected to the electric discharge treatment 5. The web surface is activated by the discharge treatment and the good coatability is obtd. even if said surface is an inert state. Streaks, flaws, pinholes, etc., on the surface of the coated film are thereby eliminated and the surface characteristic is improved.
