摘要 |
PURPOSE:To decrease the change in a response characteristic with a temp. change so as to increase the quantity of transmitted light in an on state and the contrast by impressing an one electric field to obtain the on state by diagonally orienting liquid crystal molecules and an off electric field for obtaining the off state by perpendicularly arranging the liquid crystal molecules selectively to a liquid crystal material. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal molecules are oriented perpendicularly to the substrate surface and the shutter is held off when the liquid crystal material 15 for two frequency wave driving is sealed into a liquid crystal cell 16 and the AC electric field of the frequency below a cross frequency is impressed thereto. The liquid crystal molecules try to restore the initial orientation state at a high speed when the AC electric field of the frequency above the cross frequency is applied thereto in succession. Double refractive indices change momentarily according to the value of the inclination angle of the liquid crystal molecules at this time and the transmitted light attains a bright state. The response characteristic is improved by using such state as the on state of the shutter. Since the no-electric field state is always included in the on electric field in order to obtain the on state by diagonally orienting the liquid crystal molecules, the temp. stability is improved and the contrast is increased by the increased quantity of the transmitted light.
