PURPOSE:To eliminate the cause for generation of drop-outs by incorporating a PVC resin, org. tin compd. and low molecular epoxy compd. as a binder into a magnetic recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording layer of a magnetic recording medium formed by providing the magnetic recording layer consisting of magnetic powder and binder on a nonmagnetic base contains the PVC resin, org. tin compd. and low molecular epoxy compd. as the binder. The org. tin compd. has the capacity to stop a zipper decomposition reaction by the exchange reaction with the unstable chlorine in the PVC resin. The low molecular epoxy compd. has also the capacity to stop the zipper decomposition reaction by the exchange reaction and the reaction to capture free hydrogen chloride by the reaction with the eliminated hydrogen chloride progresses therein. Since the hydrogen chloride captured in such a manner hardly induces hydrolysis, the generation of the free hydrogen chloride is obviated even if condensation, etc., arise. The decomposition of the PVC resin is, therefore, suppressed by making combination use of the org. tin compd. and the epoxy compd. and the cause for generating the drop-out, etc., is eliminated by eliminating the free hydrogen chloride.
