PURPOSE:To permit easy detection of the compsn. on the surface of a coated film and to improve the quality control of magnetic tape production by providing a pressurizing roller to press the magnetic layer surface of a test tape onto a polishing tape. CONSTITUTION:This device consists of a tape running means for running the test tape 1, a polishing tape running means for running the polishing tape in the direction opposite from the direction of the test tape 1 and the pressurizing roller 3 for pressing the magnetic layer surface of the tape 1 to the polishing tape 2. The tape surface is polished by the polishing tape 2 when the sufficiently clean tape 2 is set prior to the test and the polishing tape is run oppositely to the tape surface during running of the tape. The polishing depth is controlled and the polished coated film powder is embedded into the grain boundaries of the tape 2 when the roughness of the tape is changed. The lubricating agent on the tape surface is thus transferred onto the surface of the tape 2. After the specified length is polished, the polishing tape is immerse into a solvent to extract the coated film components and lubricating agent. These extracted samples are analyzed by an ordinary analysis instrument, by which the qualitative and quantitative determination are executed.
