PURPOSE:To improve running durability without deteriorating an electromagnetic conversion characteristic by providing semispherical projections onto the main plane opposite from the surface on which a magnetic recording layer is provided. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder, polishing material and inorg. pigment such as antisatic agent to be added at need as well as binder, dispersant, lubricating agent, etc., are thoroughly mixed and dispersed together with an org. solvent by a mixer, by which a magnetic coating compd. having desired component ratios is prepd. Such magnetic coating compd. is coated on a nonmagnetic base 1 and the magnetic powder in the coated film is subjected to an orientation treatment just prior to drying. The coated film is thereafter dried to eliminate the solvent, by which the semispherical projections 3 are obtd. The runnability is thereby improved.
