PURPOSE:To prevent generation of edge overcoating of a material to be plated, by providing edge plates freely movably so as to confront both side edges of the material to be plated near the position where the gas wiping nozzles of a continuous hot dip metal coating device are installed and providing divergently tapered parts to the bottom ends thereof. CONSTITUTION:The member 1 to be plated such as steel sheet is passed through a hot dip metal coating bath 3 of molten Zn, etc., and is pulled up. The excess molten metal sticking to said member is wiped away by the high-pressure gases injected from the gas wiping nozzles 6. The edge plates 61 are provided to both sides of the material 1 to be plated in this case and are mounted to the side edges of the material 1 in such a manner that the plates can be freely moved by fluid pressure cylinders 612 via rollers 611. The divergently tapered parts 614 are provided to the bottom ends of the plates 61 by which the flow of the gases ejected from the nozzles 6 is cast to the bath surface on the outside from the peak point of snap rolls 5. The generation of the edge overcoating and edge splashing of the material 1 and noise is thus prevented.
