PURPOSE:To correct the centering error of a rotary valve in simple ways by varying each lap quantity between and each recessed groove and recessed part of a spool and sleeve when the spool and sleeve are relatively shifted in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:Rands 55 and recessed grooves 56 are formed alternately on the outer periphery of a spool SP, and are inclined by an angle alpha with respect to the tangential line crossing at right angles in the direction of axis of the spool SP. Projecting parts 57 and recessed parts 58 are formed alternately on the inner periphery of the spool SL, and are inclined by an angle alpha similarly. When centering error is generated, the spool SP is shifted leftward by turning a nut 54, and then the recessed groove 56 and the recessed part 58 relatively shift according to the shift quantity of the spool SP, since the recessed groove 56 and the recessed part 58 are inclined by an angle alpha, and the lap quantity l1 of one part is increased, and the lap quantity l2 of the other is reduced.
