PURPOSE:To suppress side reaction, by directly introducing cooling water into a thermal decomposition product and quenching the product in thermally decomposing a 1,1'-peroxydicyclohexylamine-containing solution in a thermal decomposition column while heating to provide the titled substance. CONSTITUTION:1,1'-Peroxydicyclohexylamine (PAX), together with a heated inert gas, preferably superheated steam, is sprayed from the top of a thermal decomposition column and superheated steam is then blown into the upper part of the column to keep the PAX at 400-800 deg.C and instantaneously achieve thermal decomposition reaction in the vapor phase. Cooling water at <=60 deg.C is subsequently sprayed from a spray nozzle provided at the lower part of the column thereinto to quench the resultant thermal decomposition reaction product to <=250 deg.C, preferably <=130 deg.C and take out a condensate containing the aimed substance from the column bottom. Yield is increased and carbonized substances formed by the thermal decomposition are simultaneously washed away by the cooling water. Thereby scaling can be prevented to perform continuous operation. The obtained product is used as a raw material intermediate for nylon 12.
