PURPOSE:To readily and accurately determine optical purity, by optically resolving a 2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)carboxylic acid ester useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals using a separating agent containing a polysaccharide derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Enantiomers of a 2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)carboxylic acid ester expressed by the formula (R<1> is alkyl or aromatic group; X is alkyloxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, amino, etc.; * indicates asymmetric carbon) are optically resolved with polysaccharides or derivatives thereof by liquid chromatography, etc. The polysaccharides are preferably cellulose, mannan, etc., and used by supporting on a porous carrier, e.g. silica. The amount of the polysaccharides supported by the carrier is 1-100wt% based on the carrier.
