PURPOSE:To perform recording of a high image quality, by providing a depressed part parallel to a rotary shaft to the outer periphery of a holding drum, and providing guide plates in the vicinity of both ends of the holding drum and arranging a guide roller to the part opposed to the guide plates of a recording head. CONSTITUTION:The part 35 of recording paper 22 is aligned with the position directly above a recording head 30 to start the recording of yellow. A holding drum 21 is rotated in a direction 23, and a thermal head 25 is driven while an ink doner film 1 is fed in a direction 36. When the transfer of yellow is finished, the holding drum 21 is rotated in the direction 23 as it is, and the part 35 of the recording paper 22 is again aligned with the position directly above the recording head 30. When the length L corresponding to one color of the ink donor film 1 is selected so as to be made equal to the peripheral length of the holding drum 21, the recording of different colors can be continuously performed even when no slip is generated between both of them. By this method, since pressing force of the recording head to the recording paper does not largely varies, color shift is hard to generate and recording of a high image quality can be performed.
