A linear, amorphous, solid terpolymer of ethylene propylene and 5-isopropylidene-2- norbornene may be prepared by contacting the monomers with a catalyst system comprising an organoaluminium compound and a vanadium compound. Hydrogen may be present as a molecular weight regulator. The 5-isopropylidene-2-norbornene is preferably added to the polymerization system in such amounts that the iodine number of the resulting terpolymer becomes definite during the reaction. In the examples, ethylene, propylene and 5-isopropylidene-2-norbornene are polymerized in heptane or dichlorobenzene using a catalyst system comprising (1) ethylaluminium sesquichloride, vanadyl trichloride and optionally hydrogen, (2) diethyl aluminium chloride and vanadium triacetyl acetonate or triethyl orthovanadate, and (3) ethyl aluminium dichloride benzenesulphonyl chloride and vanadyl trichloride, the product being treated with methanol and #- phenyl naphthylamine or di-t.-butyl-p-cresol. The polymer may be cured.
