In a method for the widespread growing of maize and of sorghum for the production of fodder to be ensilaged, the sorghum is sown, in each row, above the maize. Conveniently a headless variety of sorghum is used. The sowing density of the maize is between 50,000 and 60,000 plants/ha, that of the sorghum being between 200,000 and 220,000 plants/ha. Sowing and harvesting are determined, respectively, by the heat requirements of the sorghum and by the water content of the maize. Advantageously, the sorghum remaining in the stubble after the harvest may grow to give a secondary harvest.
