PURPOSE:To suppress evaporation and splash of Cr during sintering and to overcome the defect that the corrosion resistance of sintered parts degrades by molding stainless steel powder then sintering the moldings in capped vessels. CONSTITUTION:After the ferritic or austenitic stainless steel powder is molded, the moldings 1 are put into the capped vessels 2 and are heated together with the vessels 2 by heaters 6 in a vacuum, by which the sintering is executed. The Cr vapor evaporating from the moldings 1 attains the satd. vapor pressure in a short period in the vessels 2 at the time of sintering and, therefore, the splashing of the Cr vapor from the moldings 1 is suppressed. The vessels 2 having a min. required volume to the moldings 1 suffice and further, the effect of suppressing Cr removal is additionally improved if Cr-contg. metal powder 3, etc., are put together with the moldings 1 into the vessels 2. The defect that the corrosion resistance of the moldings 1 degrades is overcome by such method.
