The invention relates to a machine for digging and filling a trench which can be used when the trench has to be dug near obstacles which are substantially aligned and of a certain height. The invention is essentially characterised in that the chassis 19, 20 of the machine is, on the one hand, raised from the ground and, on the other hand, connected to the driving elements 25 in contact with the ground by articulations 31 and 34 controlled by jacks 48. Furthermore, a retractable filling apparatus is arranged under the chassis so as to fill the trench when the machine travels in reverse. The machine is particularly intended for the drainage of vineyards and orchards. <IMAGE>
