A seagoing freighter, in particular for bulk and package cargoes, with a hull lying in the water and superstructures protruding above the seaway and including a navigating bridge with natural ventilation, is designed as a semisubmersible vessel for the purpose of economical operation and high cruising speed while maintaining acceptable living conditions for the crew. This is done by dividing the hull and the superstructures including the navigating bridge into separate bodies, with the hull taking the form of a submersible body that contains one or more cargo holds, and the superstructures comprising the navigating bridge taking the form of a cockpit lying above the level of the seaway, and being supported by the hull by means of one or more towers.
