The cyclone for removing dust from dust-carrying gas comprises a housing witha cylindrical and a (downwardly converging truncated) conical portion. The tangential gas inlet duct has at least one but preferably two (opposite) side walls parallel to a plane tangential to the cylindrical portion, thus duct preferably having a rectangular section. The inner surface of the inner duct side wall pref. forms an acute-angled edge with the inner surface of the portion. The two portions preferably connect via a smoothly curved transition.
