PURPOSE:To attain easy to see time display with low power consumption by switching and displaying time display and television display and adopting the driving method such as a conventional digital clock for the time display. CONSTITUTION:A pattern by a 7-segment 50 for time display is formed on a transparent electrode 54 formed on an upper substrate, leads wire 52 are led out of each segment and connected to a decoder for a clock driving circuit and each segment is driven statically. In displaying a television picture, a lower substrate acts like an active matrix substrate and the transparent electrode of the upper substrate functions as a common electrode. Further, in switching the display into the time display, the lower substrate 40 functions as the common electrode and the transparent electrode 54 acts like the display electrode. |
