Effective processes of preventing the oxidation of metal objects by capacitive coupling. These processes are particularly suited to preventing the oxidation of metal objects which are not grounded to the earth, such as automobiles and trucks. These processes significantly reduce the rate of oxidation of such metal objects. An electric current is impressed into the metal object by treating the metal object as the negative plate of a capacitor. This is achieved by a capacitive coupling between the metal object, a dielectric material and a positive plate. Pulses of direct current are provided to the positive plate. The metal object has a common ground with the means for providing the pulses. When the metal object is not grounded to the earth, then the preferred process includes means to provide an electrical connection between the positive plate and the earth ground through a high voltage diode which is adapted to allow the flow of electrons from the earth ground to the positive plate but prevent the flow of electrons from the positive plate to the earth ground.
|
