MANUFACTURE OF PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic optical fiber which has superior light transmitting performance by supplying resin for a core into the waveguide of an oscillator for induction heating, and extruding the resin by a piston while heating the resin by induction heating, and thus molding the core and a clad in one body. CONSTITUTION:The waveguide 2 of the oscillator 1 for induction heating is used as a cylinder, and the resin 5 for the core is supplied into the cylinder and extruded through a die 8 by the piston 3 driven in the cylinder while heated by the induction heating to mold the core and clad in one body. Resin 7 for the clad may also be heated by the induction heating. Volatile components of a polymer and air bubbles can be removed without any trouble as to heat aging and the plastic optical fiber which has superior light transmitting performance is easily manufacture under extremely stable conditions.
