PURPOSE:To obtain metal ceramic composite material having toughness and small variance in quality, by making a weight ratio of sum of silica and alumina to metal in a specific range, letting the metal be fine powder having particle diameter of specific value and dispersing. CONSTITUTION:In ceramic consisting essentially of silica, alumina and metal, the ceramic comprises 40-95wt% sum of silica and alumina and 60-5wt% metal and the metal is dispersed as fine powder having <=0.5mu particle diameter. The ceramic composition, for example, is obtained by adsorbing a metal as an ion in an atomic level on ceramic powder of silica/alumina system such as zeolite, etc., having pores and reducing to the metal. Before the reduction, the powder is sintered simultaneously with the reduction or after the reduction. Ultrafine particles of the metal are uniformly dispersed and the ceramic composition has toughness and characteristics free from variability.
