PURPOSE:To attain the recording and reproduction of a signal with high density by applying the disk revolution and the position movement of plural heads so as to make the linear velocity under the plural heads constant (CLV control). CONSTITUTION:The recording/reproducing region on an optical disk 1 is split into plural concentric areas A, B, and the information is recorded and reproduced into the split areas A, B by individual recording/reproducing means (optical heads 2, 7). Moreover, one of the recording/reproducing means is used as a base to apply revolution control to attain a constant linear velocity and the remaining recording/reproducing means applies the control to the track access to attain a constant linear velocity in response to the radial split ratio of the recording/reproducing area. Thus, the information of the plural different zones or transfer rates is recorded/reproduced to/from one and the same optical disk 1 and since the disk revolution is subject to the CLV control, the recording density is improved. Since the recording area is split, the movement quantity of the recording/reproducing means is decreased, the access is also improved and the load of the motor braking at revolution control of the optical disk 1 is reduced.
