Hollow (open topped) boxes are produced by placing a sheet of thermoplastic material having 'V' section grooves in its upper surface onto a flat bed of plates having hinges coinciding with the groove pattern, heat softening the material, pref. along the grooves, and pivoting the hinged plates to form the sheet into a box. Boxes, e.g. for television cabinets, are produced from any thermoplastic material (except polyethylene) stored as flat, pre-shaped and pre-grooved blanks which are reformed only when required for use. |
