<p>A central anode current collector carries an active anode mass of consumable metal, esp., Zinc amalgam, mixed with an alkali hydroxide electrolyte in paste or gel form. This is surrounded by a cylindrical, tight fitting cathode of a nickel mesh current collector with an external water repellent porous membrane esp., of PTFE, and an inner electrocatalyst layer of e.g., silver esp., in powder form in a PTFE binder. An outer reinforcing tube of heat shrunk or elastic material prevents internal gas pressure from causing voids between the anode/electrolyte mass and the cathode and an outer perforated ventilation can encircles the whole, with end seals and electrode contacts.</p> |
