摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a thin color liquid crystal display device which makes a bright display and is superior in display contrast and low power consumption by selecting either one of two color polarizers in a 1st liquid crystal layer and absorbing or transmitting light by a liquid crystal layer. CONSTITUTION:Color polarizers 6, 7, and 8 of blue, red and green are laminated on a glass substrate 2 and their axes of absorption are directed as shown by an arrow A. Color polarizers 9, 10, and 11 of red, green, and blue are laminated as 2nd layers on the color polarizers 6, 7, and 8 and their axes of absorption are directed as shown by an arrow B. Further, color polarizers 12, 13, and 14 of yellow, cyan, and magenta are laminated on a glass substrate 2 and their axes of absorption are directed as shown by an arrow C. Then color polarizers 15, 16, and 17 are laminated as 2nd layers on the color polarizers 12, 13, and 14 and their axes of absorption are directed as shown by an arrow E. Twisted nematic liquid crystal 36 is injected into cells 4 and 5, a neutral polarizer 37 is arranged on the incident light side of the cell 4, and the direction of polariza tion is directed as shown by an arrow F.
