<p>Hydrocarbons are cracked at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of hydrogen with a catalyst comprising a crystalline synthetic mondenite having pore openings at least 5</>rA in diameter, which has been decationized by direct treatment with mineral acid to a metal cation content not exceeding 2% weight, and a hydrogenating component selected from metals, on oxides thereof, of Group VI on VIII. Preferably the feedstock is a petroleum fraction containing over 50% volume of material boiling above 250 DEG C., e.g. a wax distillate fraction boiling between 370 DEG and 600 DEG C. Suitable hydrocracking conditions are: temp. 450-950 DEG F., pressure 250-3000 p.s.i.g., space velocity 0.2-20 v/v/hour, gas rate 1000-20,000 SCF/B.ALSO:A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst comprises a synthetic crystalline monderite having pore diameters of at least 5 which has been decationised by direct treatment with mineral acid to a metal cation content of up to 2% wt., and a Group VI or VIII metal or an oxide thereof. Specified Group VI and VIII components are Mo, W, Ni, Co, Fe, Pt and Pd.</p> |
