In a liquid-liquid extn. process of the type in which 2 immiscible liquids are continuously led in countercurrent through an extraction column, where one liquid forms the continuous phase and the other the disperse phase, and where at one end of the column both phases have a relative high concn. of solute, less active means of promoting the dispersion are used at this end of the column. The process is based on the fact that flooding occurs first in the zone of high solute concn., and that pulsation is undesirable in this zone. Rotating disc contactors and pulsating columns can be used. Process is esp. for benzene extraction of caprolactam from water.
|
