PURPOSE:To discriminate at which part of a multi-branch transmission line has a fault in case of occurrence of the fault in the transmission line by adopting a adjacent station as a diagnosis object station with respect to each station in a direction circulated along the multi-branch transmission line. CONSTITUTION:Stations 1-10 are adjacent to each other through a cyclic loop 28 in the order of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10, and a diagnostic object station of a station (x) is a station (x-1). In this case, the diagnostic object station of the station 1 is the station 10. Each station supervises the presence of reception from the diagnostic object station, and if communication from the diagnostic object station is not received even after a prescribed time or over elapses due to a fault of a partial transmission line between its own station and the diagnostic object station, a fault display is caused.
