PURPOSE:To speed up the setting of a fixation temperature and to prevent a defect in fixation from occurring by driving a pressure roller by a heat roller for a constant time when a normal set temperature is switched to a higher set temperature. CONSTITUTION:A mechanism which presses the pressure roller 12 against the heat roller 11 to drive the pressure roller for rotation consists of a controller which includes a timer circuit 16, a motor 14 which drives the heat roller 11 for rotation, and a control means 17 such as a CPU, and when the surface temperature of the heat roller 11 is switched from the normal set temperature for normal fixation to the higher set temperature for the fixation of special paper such as thick paper, the control means 17 drives the motor 14 for the constant time from the switching to drive the pressure roller 12 by the heat roller 11. This constitution allows the fixation temperature to set speedily even in a low room temperature state and prevents a defect in fixation from occurring.
