PURPOSE:To permit production of a beautiful steel sheet for exterior finishing which has no rubbing flaws and discoloration on the non-plating surface side by covering the non-plating surface side with a protective film and subjecting a stainless steel strip to electroplating in a production process for the stainless steel strip by electroplating on one side. CONSTITUTION:The protective film is coated on the non-plating surface side of the stainless steel strip 1 to provide a protective film coated surface 2. Such strip 1 is passed in a pickling bath 4, a rinsing bath 5, etc., and is subjected to a pretreatment for plating. The steel strip is then subjected to the electroplating on one side in a plating cell 10. Conductor rolls 7 are brought into contact with the plating surface 3 so that the steel strip 1 serves as an anode at this time. The steel strip 1 which is the anode is guided by a main roll 6 and is immersed into the plating cell so that the steel strip is plated with the plating liquid between the main roll 6 and a cathode 9 opposite to the main roll. The discoloration of the non-plating surface side or the deterioration of the gloss thereof at the time of the pretreatment or plating is thereby obviated and further the generation of the rubbing flaws by the slip between the non-plating surface side and guide rolls 8 is obviated as well.
