PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a muffler tube by producing the same by using a steel plate having a specified comps. such as C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cu and Ni, etc., and forming the surface thereof with a Cr oxide layer. CONSTITUTION:The muffler tube for engine exhaust gas is formed with the steel plate having the comps. consisting, by wt%, of <=0.003% C, 0.01-0.5% Si, 0.01-0.5% Mn, 0.03-0.1% P, <=0.02% S, <=0.03% Cu, 0.1-1% Ni, 5-10% Cr, 0.01-0.6% Ti, 0.001-0.15% Al, <=0.03% Ni and the balance Fe. The surface of this steel plate is then subjected to formation of the Cr oxide layer.
