PURPOSE:To optimize and simplify a color discrimination processing by setting a statistical feature parameter calculated from information outputted from a color information main component conversion means and executing the color discrimination of the color information after linear transformation. CONSTITUTION:A color information main component conversion means 4 which linearly transformer information on three primary colors by using a 3X3 matrix for transformation searched from the statistical characteristic of an N-color and which converts information on three primary colors into either two or one information to output it, and a color decision means 5 which executes the color decision processing of color information which is linearly transformed by setting the calculated statistical characteristic parameter by information outputted from the color information main component conversion means 4 are provided. Thus, the color information main component conversion means 4 lowers three-dimensional information to two-dimensional or one-dimensional information, whereby information is considerably reduced. Thus, the color discrimination processing can be optimized and simplified.
