Catalyst, contg. V2O5 and alkali sulphate as active materials on a carrier, for oxidn, of SO2 to SO3 with O2, is treated with H2SO4 before first use. Addn of 5-15 wt.% H2SO4 prevents occurrence of harmful high temp. peaks.
