PURPOSE:To perform an electric discharge at a less current without causing the moving stripes as compared with a lamp singly sealed with neon, by lighting a low pressure rare gas discharge lamp, sealed with mixed gas of neon and argon contained with a fine amount of argon, with the current over a limit current of high frequency corresponding to sealed pressure in the lamp. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of gas, in which mixed ratio A(%) of argon is A<= 5P<-2> and the rest part is neon, is sealed in a glass tube, to both ends of which filament coil electrodes holding a thermion emissive material are hermetically mounted, to prepare many lamps. To turn on the lamp, a high frequency power source is used. A range as shown by oblique lines is an obtained area provided with a limit current value, and an upper limit of the area shows a case singly sealed with neon, that is, resulting in the increase of a usable current range larger than the case singly sealed with neon by said area. Further a peak value (0-peak current) is used as the limit current. In the drawing, a decreased range of a limit current Ic (A) is shown by 5.3/P<=Ic<=7P1.1 in a range of 1.5<=P<=8 when assuming P(Torr) for sealing pressure. |
