<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a serumfree and protein-free medium, by adding an iron complex to a medium without adding a protein component such as transferrin which has been supposed to be necessary in serumfree medium. CONSTITUTION:An iron complex is added, in place of a conventional protein component such as transferrin, to a basal medium such as HAM F12 medium, Delbeco's-modified EAGLE medium, etc. The iron complex is a complex easily soluble in water and stable at about 6-8pH, e.g. ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid iron complex, nitriloacetic acid iron complex, ethylenediamine-di(o- hydroxyphenylacetic acid) iron complex, etc. The amount of the iron complex added to the medium is about 0.1-300muM. The other components constituting the medium are those other than protein components, e.g. sodium pyruvate, ethanolamine, etc. The useful substances can be easily separated and purified since protein components are absent in the medium.</p> |
