PURPOSE:To hold the amount of carriers in a developing machine constant by providing a light source which irradiates a photosensitive body with light between an image forming means and an electrostatic transfer means. CONSTITUTION:The light source 16 for electrostatic discharging which irradiates the photosensitive body 1 with light is provided between the image formation part and electrostatic transfer means 12. Consequently, charges of carriers 10b of a toner image 10 are coupled with electrostatic charges 9 and neutralized. In this case, the carriers 10b having the opposite charges may be injected instead. Toner 10a has insulating property, so it can not be neutralized with latent image charges 9, so the toner 10a holds charges and carriers 15 have no charge when they reach the electrostatic transfer means 12. The electrostatic transfer means 12 transfers only the toner 10a to recording paper 11 and almost none of the carriers 15 is transferred and recovered as a remaining image 14 to the developing machine 2. Consequently, the amount of carriers in the developer 5 is nearly constant, and only toner needs to be supplied so as to hold the mixing rate of the toner and carriers constant; and the control over the mixing ratio is facilitated and variation in print quality is reduced. |
