PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of the detection of mycotic contamination or product inspection of cellulosic blood dialysis membrane, etc., by preparing a reagent containing a component specifically reactive with beta-1,3-glucan obtained from body fluid of insert. CONSTITUTION:Physiological saline water containing sugar cane factor as an impurity is injected into the body cavity of an insect. Hemolymph is collected from the cavity, centrifuged to separate blood cells and dialyzed to obtain plasma. A component specifically reacting with peptidoglycan and exhibiting enzymatic activity is removed from the blood plasma to obtain a component specifically reactive with beta-1,3-glucan and a reagent containing said component is prepared therefrom. The reagent is made to react with a specimen and the time to develop the enzymatic activity is measured to determine the amount of beta-1,3-glucan.
