7-(indolizin-2-yl)hept-6-enoic acids of the formula I: <IMAGE> I wherein each of R1 and R2 is, independently, H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, Y is CHCH, or CH2CH2; and <IMAGE> in which R8 is H, an ester residue or cation; or the lactone thereof. The compounds are useful as hypocholesteremic agents.
