<p>1279985 Programmed control of machine tools SUNDSTRAND CORP 1 Oct 1969 [22 Oct 1968] 48126/69 Heading G3N One or more machine tools 62, remotely located on a factory floor 64, are controlled from a high-speed, general purpose, digital computer 60. A multiplex channel 1 of the computer is connected through a data link to a card-reader and punch 70, a print unit 71 and a key-board 72 which provide facilities for entering data into the system. An external DISK store 74 is connected to the computer through a control unit 75, to a selector channel 2. The computer is connected from a selector channel 1 to an interface 78 which communicates with each machine control unit 80 through a logic unit 81 and a data-link designated cable two. Each logic unit 81 communicates with machine tool control console 82 and an operator's console 83 over a long data-link designated cable three. A mobile communications terminal 84 is positionable adjacent to a machine tool to facilitate insertion of operator generated instructions. The logic 78 cycles through the addresses of the units 81 and is stopped to enable communication between a particular machine and the computer which, after an exchange of information, goes offline and services other machine or runs background programmes. The logic 78 and units 81 operate with high-rate binary signals and are located near computer 60 or an electrically quiet location a short distance therefrom. The signals from units 81 to the shop floor machine tools are phase-shifted squarewaves for areas control and low-rate binary signals for auxiliaries.</p> |
